Game Design Tip 003: Make a Prototype as Quickly as Possible

Have you ever been guilty of overthinking a game before you've even made a rough prototype? I know I have. I tend to mull over a game and mentally work out all the details... without ever playing. Crazy, right? But what I've changed to, and what I recommend for you, is that as soon as you get an idea you're interested in, make a very quick prototype. Just enough to let you get some of the game laid out on the table to see if it really works. There's something about seeing your idea on the table in front of you that really helps move your game design forward, so it's best to do it as soon as possible.

If you're looking for a quick win in game design, head over to my channel and check out the Finish This Game series, where I give you the skeleton of a game, and you get to practice what it takes to actually finish a game. That's a skill we all need to develop that only comes through practice.
