Make an Area Control Board Game

I’ve recently published a new class on Skillshare called Make an Area Control Board Game. It’s really an extension of my Finish This Game series, but within the creative community of Skillshare, where there are others who will be working on the same class as you and there is a host of other classes on all kinds of creative and small business topics.

I think game design is a fun, rewarding hobby, even if someone never decides to pursue publishing, but there can be a lot of barriers that keep someone from beginning, and even more that keep them from actually finishing their game. But I've come to realize that game design is a a skill just like anything else, and so what newer game makers need most is practice. Practice going through the whole process of designing a game and most importantly, seeing what it takes to actually finish a game!

So I made this Area Control - Finish This Game Project as a simple way for you to jump right in. I give you the skeleton of a game as the jumping off point, and provide you with all the print and play files, source files, and rules you'll need to customize it and make it your own. At the end of the class, not only will you have a fun, playable game of your own design, you will have leveled up your game design skills (or maybe even discovered and exciting new hobby you love!)

This class is available on Skillshare. If you use my link you can get a 14 day free trial, which is plenty of time to participate in the class. And while you're there, I'd recommend checking out more classes on Skillshare. I've really enjoyed using it myself and there are all kinds of great classes on creative and small business topics. They also often run a deal on getting a 3 month membership for just a few dollars. Totally worth it!

More than anything, I hope this class helps you learn how to better finish your games. If you need some advice or input along the way, you can always reach out to me either through this site or on Instagram. I’d love to see what you’re making and give you feedback or brainstorm with you.
